All posts from the year 2026.

A black-and-white photo looking up at a shelf from a low, couch-level angle. Four posters hang on the wall: a grid of tiny illustrated trees, a striped optical-perspective print, a painting of a woman resting a katana on her shoulder against a city skyline, and a Caribou Honey poster. Below, a record shelf holds vinyl upright, with If I Could Make It Go Quiet by girl in red turned face-out, a hooded figure lit from within. In front sit an orchid, a small R2-D2 card, a framed photo of trees, and a light box reading TWENTY PAST EIGHT. A turntable sits to the right, with more records lining the shelf below. — undefined - 9 Aug, 2026 at 8:20 PM

A clear glass vase of cut flowers stands on a cluttered table in a sunlit room. The bouquet holds two round yellow marigolds, ruffled pale-blue carnations, tall white and blush snapdragons, and small orange daisies among green foliage. Afternoon light comes through a window on the right, past a potted plant on the sill. In the background at left, a low bookshelf holds a white-and-red Polaroid camera above a dark TV screen and rows of books. On the table in front are magazines, a small devotional prayer card, and two cups holding pens, brushes, and markers. — undefined - 9 Aug, 2026 at 4:00 PM

Love this essay by Conor Dougherty about 40- and 50-somethings who skate a Costco car park before work. Curbs as an excuse to keep showing up for each other.

A large mural on the side of a two-tone yellow-and-grey building fills a dark laneway at night. It shows a woman with flowing teal-blue hair and a crown of yellow flowers, holding an orange cocktail glass aloft in one hand; oranges, plums, and blossoms spill across her white robe. Red spray-paint tags cover the grey lower wall to the right, and metal bollards line the sidewalk in the foreground. — undefined - 1 Aug, 2026 at 9:44 PM

John Herrick unravel the mysteries of elevators.

An intersting guid for archivist wanting to create disk images of floppy disks with the intention of preserving them for the long-term.

Julia Evans talks about her learnings from using SQLite in production.

Michiyo Yasuda gave Ghibli its colour. This piece finally gives her the credit.

A grid of Studio Ghibli film stills in cool blues: open skies and seas, a serpentine dragon, gliders and seabirds, a girl running across water, and cloudscapes.

A grid of nearly bleached-out Studio Ghibli film stills: pencil sketches, a reclining girl, cherry blossoms, a sleeping cat, a green bird, and pale washed interiors with faint Japanese text.

A grid of Studio Ghibli film stills in intense reds: a fire demon, a masked warrior's eyes, an ornate red interior, a girl clutching a coat in a leaf-storm, and blazing skies.

A grid of Studio Ghibli film stills in twilight purples: dusk seascapes, a mechanical creature, a girl with a red umbrella, a goggled aviator's face, and lavender skies. This grid is 3×6, taller than the others.

A grid of Studio Ghibli film stills in soft pinks: an elderly woman in an interior, flowering blossoms, a white cat, a girl at a window, and a pale umbrella against brick.

A grid of Studio Ghibli film stills unified by warm orange tones: sunset skies, amber interiors, a fox-faced figure, a sleeping dog, and characters bathed in golden light.

A grid of Studio Ghibli film stills in lush greens: rice paddies and forests, children on a country road, a hand reaching out, a small forest spirit, and dense undergrowth.

A photocopied black-and-white flyer wheatpasted around a metal utility pole on a Toronto street. Bold caps read "WANT 2 JOIN A BAND?" flanked by hand-drawn stars, above smaller text: "Looking for talented musicians to join a vocalist that knows a little piano and is learning guitar and maybe take on the world. Indie rock, folk, punk, jazz, blues... Willing to play any genre (except screamo)." A partly torn "Inspirations" list runs down the left edge — Billy Joel, Pulp, Dominic Fike, Joni Mitchell, Faye Webster, Amyl and the Sniffers, Hozier, Dora Jar. Cartoon black cats play a guitar, a vintage microphone, and drums in the lower right. Above the flyer, older stickers and a QR code cling to the pole. Behind, streetcar tracks and a leafy residential street recede into the distance. — undefined - 26 Jul, 2026 at 4:25 PM

I’m speaking at Python Toronto’s July 23 Meetup on Personal Data Archaeology with Python. Almost every platform you use holds a slice of your life, all locked behind an API. The Dogsheep pattern (pioneered by Simon Willison) pulls that data into SQLite, where you can actually query it. I’ll share what I’ve learned building these tools.

Come say hi.
